Next Stop: Wild Barrel Brewery

This Sunday I have a larger entourage than last week. My brother, sisters, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew, both nieces, my cousin, my cousin’s girlfriend, myself, my boyfriend, and a few close friends.

Wild Barrel is a brewery located in San Marcos, right next to the new DMV. One of the best parts about Wild Barrel is it’s close to home, and they have axe throwing! Unfortunately, I was unable to try axe throwing during this week’s family Sunday Funday but I anticipate trying it in the near future.

Wild Barrel has a very rustic feel to it. It’s inside a warehouse-like location where you can also find batting cages on the other side, and a small gym-like area equipped with different machines and exercise equipment, axe throwing, and even a couple arcade games in a lounge area near the batting cages.

One of the biggest differences Wild Barrel has from my other posts is food. Even though wild barrel does not have it’s own food menu or kitchen, conveniently enough there is a food truck located in the parking lot of the establishment that serves Mexican cuisine. I recommend the Carne asada tots, which are essentially carne asada fries substituted with tater tots.

Now, typically you wouldn’t expect breweries to be a kid-friendly environment. But, I beg to differ. Breweries in San Diego are some of the better establishments that are both kid and pet friendly and still enjoyable for the adults of the group. While you enjoy a beer you can sit back while your kids enjoy the games or batting cages which is pretty sweet.

Another plus to Wild Barrel is the giant TV’s located inside which is great for watching the games. In my family, this is very important so this adds to the fan attraction.

Local, axe throwing, kid/pet friendly, food truck, great to watch the game, what more could you ask for? Oh yeah, I can’t forget the beer!

First and foremost, I would just like to say WOW. Wild Barrel truly outdoes themselves with the amount of delicious beers they offer on tap. If you are a fan of sours like myself, then there is no better sour I’ve had other than Wild Barrel. Their flavors range from Montmorency Cherries, Pink Guava, Mixed Berry Bomb, etc. But my personal favorite is the Passion Cactus Dragon Fruit. I mean c’mon, it just sounds amazing.

If you are not a fan of sours, don’t worries they still have a great variety of pale ales, ambers, and IPA’s. But their sours are five stars. For all of you who are not fans of sours, I challenge you to check this place out and taste the great madness Wild Barrel is brewing.
