A sister’s Sunday Funday

This Sunday was not the usual; we didn’t have the whole gang together. However, I endured the company of my sister as she visited from college! It’s been so long since we’ve had a sister’s day I was overwhelmed with excitement to catch up on the different events going on in our lives.

As we get older I find myself cherishing my bond with my sister much more. Of course when we’re younger our siblings are either our best friends, or worst enemies, or perhaps if you’re like my sister and I, a combination of both. When you’re young you are less likely to appreciate your family because you’re with them constantly and you can’t miss them if they’re not gone.

Now that my sister is away at college I can’t wait for her to return to catch up about the little things that she has to share such as, her roommates gossip, the professor she just can’t seem to please, her mid-life college crisis where she contemplates quitting and working at Petco for the rest of her days (for those who work at Petco, no shame, I’m an animal lover too more power to you). It’s a bittersweet moment to realize how much we take our younger years with our families for granted, but that’s what makes Family Sunday Funday’s all the better because I finally have a true appreciation for them.

We woke up on a beautiful Sunday morning greeted by clear blue skies, and the warm sun. Nothing better to put us in that Sunday Funday mood. We dwelled over coffee and yelp reviews on where we were going to venture too next. Being that it was just us two, we figured we didn’t have to be as strict on the family and kid friendly atmosphere we typically set out for.

This Sunday was different. We decided on somewhere close to the water where we could soak up the sun, and somewhere that is farther than where we usually go (and farther than what my gas tank is used too).

After reading a ton of reviews and scrolling through the pictures that could make you salivate just from looking at them, we decided on the spot “Crushed” in Pacific Beach. If you’re familiar with Pacific Beach or “PB” you know it appeals to a young crowd for the beach and the several different bars and eateries.

PB is known to be a college kids playground. Before I moved to San Diego, I envisioned all places to be just like PB. Of course, there is more to San Diego then just PB but you really get the sense of the southern California feel when visiting PB. If you have yet to go, be sure to include it on your to-do list.

Crushed gives off major “girls day out” vibes. Now fellas, don’t let this discourage you! If you enjoy a good brunch I highly recommend Crushed to you as well. My sister and I were overwhelmed with the amount of drink choices! Not only were we able to order a mimosa flight (YUM!), we also ordered their margarita flight (EVEN BETTER!). To say the least we were in heaven.

The flavors for the margaritas come with a set flavored list of Orange-Coconut, Strawberry, and Kiwi.  However the mimosas come in several flavors that you’re able to customize, my sister and I decided on apricot, raspberry, and passionfruit. Each drink was just as tasty as they looked and even better for an Instagram photo prop.

Now on to the best part, food! After a long moment of looking over their menu full of great variety I settled on the Chicken Chilaquiles. I could not have made a better decision. I struggled between going the sweet or savory route because they have appetizing unique flavored pancakes as well but I knew I had to balance the sweetness of our drinks with something more hearty and salty. If you’re unfamiliar with chilaquiles, it’s essentially tortilla chips drenched in some delicious salsa (typically salsa Verde), with different toppings.

At crushed, it was served with cheese, eggs (any style), chicken, garnished with Pico de Gallo, avocado, onions, and cilantro. My sister ordered the fish tacos, I couldn’t tell you how great they were because I am not a fan of seafood however by the look of them I’d imagine they tasted great too.

After we indulged on both drinks and food, we took a moment to let our bloated tummies settle. From here we were able to visit the next spot only a hop and skip away. That’s the best part of PB. Everything is so close you can walk off your brunch to the next destination.

If you are looking for a good brunch spot close to the beach and in a fun, upbeat location, that won’t break your bank, visit Crushed. You won’t be disappointed, and if you are disappointed stick around for my next suggestion
