The First Sunday

Sundays are for good food and family

One of the best traditions my family was smart enough to come up with was the ritual of a “Sunday Funday”. This play on words may have a bunch of reasons for a bunch of people. For my family particularly, it usually consists of good food, games, drinks, and if we’re lucky some good weather.

I’m lucky to be a part of a family that is so tightknit and encourages spending time together. However, with busy schedules and the different extracurricular activities it makes it hard to find time to get together. But, Sunday has always been everyone’s mutual off day. Something about Sunday signifies a day to relax while also prepping for bringing in the new week. For me it usually signifies the end of the weekend and procrastination for homework assignments

However, the biggest struggle that followed when we began this tradition was to locate different places that fit the category of tasty food, drinks, and some type of activity or atmosphere that was kid-friendly and family oriented.

Luckily, San Diego is home to a ton of yummy places waiting to take part in our family’s tradition. The first place on the map was Breakfast Republic, a cute brunch spot located in beautiful Encinitas. If you are familiar with North County San Diego, then you would know Encinitas is one of the gems North County has to offer. From the beaches to the cute town, and upbeat nightlife area it makes Encinitas a vibrant city for all to explore.

When arriving to Breakfast Republic we were greeted by the warm entrance in a remote location. The décor was cute and quirky with several different things to observe. For one, they had little seats in the shape of cracked eggs which I thought was amusing and fitting. The tables were scattered in a funny arrangement which gave this place some character. It doesn’t stop there though; the light fixtures were light bulbs that were enclosed in a cute whisk for even more detail. Overall, it was a very unique and fun place to be.

The menu was very interesting; it had several different items I have never seen offered at any other brunch spots. I ordered my first breakfast tostada. It entailed an open face hard shell tostada with scrambled eggs, cheese, avocado, black beans, and salsa. It all made for a really tasty bite!

However, one of the things I thought was also super cool they offer are their Adaptogenic Antioxidant Shots. They offered 3 different kinds that all serve different purposes such as removing toxins, increasing blood flow, and boosting immune function (definitely something to offer a friend who may be suffering from a rough night of wild partying the night before). And of course, I couldn’t forget the bottomless mimosas! My favorite part. They offered different flavor juices to pair with the bubbly champagne, however, we decided to keep it classic and stick to orange juice. After a few sips and bites our time was coming to an end where we’d eventually part ways and plan for our next destination and set a date. Stay tuned to see where we’ll end up next on our journey through Sunday funday’s.

Overall, I think it’s safe to say Breakfast Republic made for a good experience and we can expect to come back sometime again.
